In the past five years, India’s imports of rare earths from China have gone up 60 to 80 per cent, and the government is now trying to cut this reliance by increasing local production. In March it announced a liberalised scheme allowing private companies to explore minerals and rare earth elements and opened some 13 acreages up for auction. Under this policy, the government will also reimburse half the exploration costs in areas where no minerals are discovered. I don't think that India needs extraction so much as processing, where China is really dominant.

Looking at the ratio of my downvotes I guess here haha. I’ve thought about how to respond to your comment for a while. I don’t want to “out” some niche communities here for being toxic. That just perpetuates the problem I’m complaining about. So instead a non niche example are the Nintendo and video game general communities here are overwhelmingly negative compared to their reddit equivalents.

I share your frustration. I went nuts about this the other day. It was in the context of searching on a discord server, rather than Google, but it was so aggravating because of the how the "I know better than you" is everywhere nowadays in tech. The discord server was a reading group, and I was searching for discussion regarding a recent book they'd studied, by someone named "Copi". At first, I didn't use quotation marks, and I found my results were swamped with messages that included the word "copy". At this point I was fairly chill and just added quotation marks to my query to emphasise that it definitely was "Copi" I wanted. I still was swamped with messages with "copy", and it drove me mad because there is literally no way to say "fucking use the terms I give you and not the ones you think I want". The software example you give is a great example of when it would be real great to be able to have this ability. TL;DR: Solidarity in rage

Exactly, we don’t know how the brain would adapt to having electric impulses wired right in to it, and it could adapt in some seriously negative ways.

When a Lemmy instance owner gets a legal request from a foreign countries government to take down content, after they’re done shitting themselves they’ll take the content down or they’ll have to implement a country wide block on that country, along with not allowing any citizens of that country to use their instance no matter where they are located. Block me, I don’t care. You’re just proving that you can’t handle the truth and being challenged with it.

So we need a documentary like Super Size Me but for social media. I think post that documentary coming out was the only time I've seen people's attitudes change in the general population about fast food.
