The sad part is that this is a very well known phenomena, yet people become too consumed by everything else to even care about learning of such warnings left behind by long dead civilizations.

most, if not all, people i've met who choose to not care, don't care not because they're "too consumed by everything else" but because caring and acting accordingly would need them to be slightly less comfortable.

And they strongly believe that they deserve to be as comfortable now as they can.
