The bizarre, dismal page you see if you open YouTube without an account.

Welcome to Youtube, person who has never been to Youtube before. Here's what we have to offer:
I actually like this. No politics. No big name personalities. No distractions.
Just a search bar to ASK me what I want to see before it tells me what it thinks I want to see.

I can get this when logged in too! Just disable history! Its great.
Just came here to say this.
The suggested videos are terrible.

But then it shows you one bad result and then "other people also viewed this" and its just some barely related shorts

Good to know. As my posting history on Lemmy will show I definitely watch bread recipes videos.
In fact I became a mod for c/cooking today.Congrats! And condolences.

Compared to seeing Mr.Beast clone 678-1080 taking up the front with jimmy Kimmel for some reason, Yea I'd rather see a blank page too.

Get the extension "DeArrow" it replaces thumbnails with random frames from the video and let's the community edit titles, and auto un-capitalizes titles.

I'm curious on what your solution to this would be? There is already a page to browse your subscriptions, and a page to browse the popular stuff.
The home page specifically is to find new videos based on your history, so with no history what would it show?
YouTube in the past suggested things to you even without having a profile on you. You can suggest things to people without having their complete or partial watch history. Some videos are popular with nearly everyone with factors like watch time, user engagement, upvotes, shares, etc.
Right now they're not doing that. They're explicitly refusing to do that for all users.

Honestly, I like it. I run google and all of its platforms in their own tab containers, without signing in and that's what my Youtube looks like. It's great, I can search for the thing I need, and otherwise interact with google ad spam as little as possible

You get a handful of results, after which you just get "recommended" AI slop shorts and completely irrelevant "suggestions".
If YT Red gave me the option to disable Shorts and "suggestions" I might pay for it but you can't pay your way out of this hellhole.
ReVanced (a patched version of the official app) is straight up better than Premium because it can get rid of all the crap corporate insists on shoving into customers' faces. My YouTube app has a subscriptions tab (that only shows videos, not shorts or random
"informative" carousels) and my profile tab with all my playlists, and nothing else. It's glorious in its simplicity. Why would I ever pay Google for a worse product?

It's almost like old school Google front page.

🥹 it's so clean and beautiful
Yeah, considering what garbage tends to top the trending charts at YT, I think a blank page is better than if they just show the most popular videos of the day.

This is what our company one looks like. History disabled.
Imagine a memory care when you go to put on music you get recommendations for Meagan the stallion and lil boosie
It really makes you realize the slop being shoveled by the algorithm

Same Ada.
I'd rather see nothing than the slop the algorithm keeps plastering across my screen. (Though I do like the topic buttons at the top.)

I specifically disabled my watch history to get this. If I want to watch something, I'll go to my subscriptions. Why would I want to interact with YouTube's algorithm?

I see it whenever I go there.

In an internet full of advertising and distractions, it's nice to see a landing page that lets me decide what I want to consume.

Perfection!
I rather have strangers on forums recommending me stuff than their "algorithm"
Exurb1a is great btw (a lot of philosophy with a tiny sprinkle of.. well you know... existential crisis 🫠)
Mentour Pilot for those who have an aircraft obsession
Ted-Ed for a lot of various historical, science, even political, educational content.

Isn't this better than trying to make it so that you never click off YouTube, the way it works if you are logged in? I would much rather have no recommendations than have an algorithm give me recommendations with the express purpose of maximising ad revenue extraction from me
