In concept, as a partly libertarian, I agree, they should sell the hardware and what I do with it is my business and if I misuse it and get in an accident that is my fault not theirs. In practice, most people don't see it that way unfortunately. There's an awful lot of people who already misuse autopilot, even going back to the early days of autopilot. And every time someone gets in a crash in a Tesla, the question becomes did autopilot kill them and can we blame Tesla for the crash. Personally I wish more people took the absolute view, namely that it's supervised autopilot so either the human did something stupid or the computer did something stupid while the human was supposed to be watching it and either way it's the human's fault. Unfortunately this is not the world we live in Point being, I would complain more about the parenting behavior of society at large than the parenting behavior of big tech.

Maybe if AI actually existed that would be a valid concern.

I’m confused, how can this be done? Power off non-personal devices at the end of the day and no snooping How is private social media available to the companies?

You can have whatever token you want with all the metadata, licensing and ownership information you want... ...unless you plan on only seeing images in your own platform, nobody gives a shit, people will take screenshots and image files and share and use them however they want. There's no world in which you load a full DRM plugin or do 4 different types of handshake with a full blockchain just to load a jpeg into a comment.

They've probably just crunched the numbers and determined the cost of a recall in Canada was greater than the cost of law suits when your house does burn down

I spent way too long researching the morning. That industry implies a much greater population that is attracted to children. Things get more nuanced. People are attracted to different stages, like prebubesant, early adolescence, and mid to late adolescence. It seems like an important distinction because this is a common mental disorder. I was ready to write this comment about my fear that there's a bunch of evil pedophiles living among us who are simply deterred by legal or social pressures. It seems more like the extreme stigma of pedophilia has prevented individuals from seeking assistance and has resulted in more child sexual abuse. This sort of disorder can be caused by experiencing this abuse at a younger age. When I was religious, we worked closely with an organization to help victims of trafficking. We had their stories. They entered our lives. I took care of some of these kids. As a victim of sexual abuse when I was kid, I had a hatred for these kinds of people. I feel like my brain is melting seeing how there is a high chance of people in my life being attracted to children. This isn't really to justify the industry. I'm just realizing that general harassing people openly about it might not be helping the situation.
