FYI- insurance company data breaches impact more than just customers. I had my identity stolen a few years ago because a small car insurance company I've never heard of was able to buy data on me from my state's government to build a potential customer profile, and then they got hacked. I would assume Aflac has data on just about everyone in the US.

Your reasoning would hold up if 80% of xmpp wasn't running on Conversations or forks of it, that all support OMEMO and OpenPGP. Your criticisms are too broad with few serious negatives. What makes extensions powerful is that they can easily change the rules without breaking the underlying system. If your client sucks, get another? You have choices, but if your problem is metadata, whoooo boy. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32780665 https://github.com/matrix-org/synapse/issues/9133 https://www.reddit.com/r/PrivacyGuides/comments/q7qsty/is_matrix_still_a_metadata_disaster/

VC-backed OpenAI is the most valuable company in the world and is engaging in massive environmental destruction. The US state just went into cahoots with them to the tune of billions VC-backed Uber and AirBnb disrupted multiple estabilished industries for the worst by undercutting them through loss-leading. VC-backed Facebook killed or purchased all its rivals and consolidated almost all social media to the detriment of the whole world.

I did read it, and my comment is exactly referencing the attitude of the author which is "It's good enough, so you should use it". I disagree, and say it's another dumbass shortcut to cash grab on a less than stellar ecosystem and product. It's training wheels for failure.

That's based on https://github.com/jonmagic/copy-excel-paste-markdown Would be awesome to see some Lemmy clients incorporate that. I've had it requested but haven't had a chance to really dig into it yet.

IMO stuff like that is why a good trainer is important. IMO it's stronger evidence that proper user-centered design should be done and a usable and intuitive UX and set of APIs developed. But because the buyer of this heap of shit is some C-level, there is no incentive to actually make it usable for the unfortunate peons who are forced to interact with it.
