Gamers Bombard Visa & MasterCard With Emails and Calls Over Steam and itch.io Censorship
-
It’s impressive how much people get riled up about not getting porn.
I don’t blame them but I also don’t see this as activism, I doubt anyone really spending the time on this cares about possible future censorship that others who are not them may face, they just want to buy their porn.First they came for the porn...

Fine you win.
Would you please go call you senator or congressperson, local politician or mayor, perhaps a school board member or library director, and state your opposition to visa and MasterCard refusing service for sexual abuse related products.
There, I'm contributing just as much as you are! Twinsies!
Lol. Lmao even. Poor reading comprehension, strawmanning, and false equivalency all in one short comment, congratulations. You'd do well troll comment golf! You even snuck some childish huffing in there without adding too many extra characters!

Fictional isn't the same as not real.
Fiction is definitionally not true or is made up.
-
But the Visa thing is an international issue that can be dealt with by contacting Visa. They're talking about contacting US senators, which is obviously not an international thing, it's an American thing. I know a lot of Americans have difficulty understanding that America doesn't equal the whole world, but come on.
Go do that too but don't try and link it to this because it's not even remotely related.
I don't see how that makes the same method unsuitable. and no, I'm not an American, and I never have been there.

You can replace congressional representatives with MPs or whatever is appropriate.
-
The person who made the image had a cause they cared about and did something about it. If you care about those causes you should absolutely do the same.
Otherwise you just sound like you're lashing out at people who are doing something about something, while you are doing nothing about anything.
By the way, how many of those causes have you called your representative about?
I'm active in my community and I'm sure my congressional representatives wish I'd move, as the ones I had prior.
It's odd how so many are quick to add their personal interpretations.
-
Maybe they reversed it in that case after outrage... I'm basing it on the reporting:
https://www.polygon.com/news/615910/itchio-steam-sex-adult-games-delisting-pulled-vice-controversy
In this case, the furor is driven by the knowledge that Collective Shout isn’t merely against games like No Mercy. It’s also waged a campaign against titles like Detroit: Become Human, Quantic Dream’s adventure game that is decidedly not an “adult” game, and titles like hentai puzzle/dating sim Huniepop. The worry is that, by bucking to pressure from groups like Collective Shout, platforms like Steam pave the way for more extreme censorship measures.
So maybe it was a separate campaign regarding Detroit?
-
It's odd how so many are quick to add their personal interpretations.
Right, it's not like that's what you immediately did in your first comment.
You also didn't answer the question as to how many of those causes you called your representatives about.

I asked that people be as passionate for things I've mentioned. Any one will do.
Every. Single. Issue.

Lol I'm on the visa line with Visa now, they have a prepared statement about this.
They are trying to say they only ever block purchases unless it's illegal.
They explicitly said they DO NOT moderate purchases unless it is illegal multiple times. I kept challenging her and saying it's not illegal, yet they moderate, but she told me she can only read the prepared statement and repeated it multiple times. She then told me I would have to email them to "share my perspective" and then hung up on me.
Good thing what they say doesn't matter, since goal is to tie up the lines.
-
Not sure I'd call preventing abuse as backwards mentality.
You can't possibly think that's actually what's happening here.
-
Fiction is definitionally not true or is made up.
Cool, I didnt expect you to understand my point.

There has to be an option where digital payment is concerned that allows an intermediate step that anonymizes transactions so one hand doesn't know what the other is doing.
This bullshit really makes me not want to see digital currency at all now, of any kind.

Aww look at how smart you look, good reply!

Cool, I didnt expect you to understand my point.
If you elaborated and actually explained the specifics of your point instead of being vague you run the risk of having to make an argument in favor of it instead of just feeling safely morally or intellectually superior to a stranger on the internet.
I don't want to waste my time on ego. I know I can be ignorant, I'm looking to learn. I also know some people think they have it all figured out, I hope I can provide a meaningful counter for them to chew on. Maybe I didn't understand you: then fucking explain your point or stop wasting people's time with smug vague posts. This isn't bluesky.
Otherwise, it sounds like you were actively hoping I did not understand your point so you could enjoy the aroma of your own flatulence.
-
I asked that people be as passionate for things I've mentioned.
No, you didn't. You've bombarded them with a long list of "whatabouts" that is only going to exhaust them, not move them to action.
-
I don't see how that makes the same method unsuitable. and no, I'm not an American, and I never have been there.
It makes a difference because it's about having an effect.
American politics is really fucked, seriously it's utterly beyond repair it's totally corrupt. No one can achieve anything in that failure of a nation state.
Meanwhile we might actually be able to affect real political change here and I don't want American politics all over an actual worthwhile cause.
If you want to advocate for American causes please go create your own goddamn thread, I promise not to involved in it.
