There's no such thing as pure democracy in anything larger than an ancient Greek city-state, possibly today's HOAs - and you see how well they work. What passes for democracy in todays' nations of millions (and even the HOA we chose to leave 12 years ago) is elected representative government where the voters trust their elected representatives to represent their interests - to varying degrees of success and failure. What's lacking in, for instance, the US government for some time now is actual representation of the majority of the peoples' interests - unless the majority of the people actually enjoy being on the poor end of a growing wealth gap. Those voters who continue to elect representatives who perpetuate these policies are: getting the government they deserve.

a subtle edit resolving a duplicate reference in a way that removes displays from the list of parts that must be replaceable by a layperson with basic tools That's fucking significant change, considering probably even more smartphones become ewaste from cracked screens than anything else by a long shot...

I've been using Vivaldi as my logged in browser for years. I like the double tab bar groups, session management, email client, sidebar and tab bar on mobile. It is strange to me that tab bar isn't a thing on mobile on other browsers despite phones having way more vertical space than computers. Although for internet searches I use a seperate lighter weight browser that clears its data on close. Ecosia also been using for years. For a while it was geniunely better than the other search engines I had tried but nowadays it's worse since it started to return google translate webpage translation links based on search region instead of the webpages themselves. Also not sure what to think about the counter they readded after removing it to reduce the emphasis on quantity over quality like a year ago. I don't use duckduckgo as its name and the way privacy communities used to obsess about it made me distrust it for some reason

My understanding is that if they've lasted at least a month and haven't died on you, you probably got a "good" batch and what you have now will be what it stays as for the most part, but a fair number of gulikits just sort of crap out at the 1-2 mo mark. So heads up on that.

I share your frustration. I went nuts about this the other day. It was in the context of searching on a discord server, rather than Google, but it was so aggravating because of the how the "I know better than you" is everywhere nowadays in tech. The discord server was a reading group, and I was searching for discussion regarding a recent book they'd studied, by someone named "Copi". At first, I didn't use quotation marks, and I found my results were swamped with messages that included the word "copy". At this point I was fairly chill and just added quotation marks to my query to emphasise that it definitely was "Copi" I wanted. I still was swamped with messages with "copy", and it drove me mad because there is literally no way to say "fucking use the terms I give you and not the ones you think I want". The software example you give is a great example of when it would be real great to be able to have this ability. TL;DR: Solidarity in rage
