I love text chats with a person, but I feel most of the time that when I start with a text chat with a bot and get transferred to a real agent, they ask all of the same questions, like info gathering name, phone, email, etc. it's almost as if the real people can't see the transcript of the conversation I had with the bot. The thing is, most of those chats that I've worked with for years are simple chat bots, not AI, and those are plenty effective for their purpose. They have their preset question tree and that's it. I may also be a little skewed in my experiences compared to a lot of people, since I've worked in IT for over a decade, so often when in reaching out to service, it's something more advanced where I need a person to actually talk to. Also, anything billing or containing private information. I under no circumstances want that fed into an LLM or accessible to an AI agent so it can be shared accidentally to someone else.

Oh, Google... Just eviler and eviler every day. Not only robbing creators of any monetization via clicking on links but now just blatantly stealing their content for an even more efficient theft model. FFS. I can't fucking wait to complete my de-googling project and get you the absolute fuck completely out of my life. I've developed a hatred for Google that actually rivals my hatred for Apple. ‍️

Hear me out, Eliza. It'll be equally useless and for orders of magnitude less cost. And no one will mistakenly or fraudulently call it AI.

I share your frustration. I went nuts about this the other day. It was in the context of searching on a discord server, rather than Google, but it was so aggravating because of the how the "I know better than you" is everywhere nowadays in tech. The discord server was a reading group, and I was searching for discussion regarding a recent book they'd studied, by someone named "Copi". At first, I didn't use quotation marks, and I found my results were swamped with messages that included the word "copy". At this point I was fairly chill and just added quotation marks to my query to emphasise that it definitely was "Copi" I wanted. I still was swamped with messages with "copy", and it drove me mad because there is literally no way to say "fucking use the terms I give you and not the ones you think I want". The software example you give is a great example of when it would be real great to be able to have this ability. TL;DR: Solidarity in rage

I don't think accuracy is an issue either. I've been on the web since inception and we always had a terribly inaccurate information landscape. It's really about individual ability to put together found information to an accurate world model and LLMs is a tool just like any other. The real issues imo are effects on society be it information manipulation, breaking our education and workforce systems. But all of that is overshadowed by meme issues like energy use or inaccuracy as these are easy to understand for any person while sociology, politics and macro economics are really hard.

One downside of the method is that each molecular message can only be read once, since decoding the polymers involves degrading them. New DRM just dropped. Imagine pouring rented movies into your TV like laundry detergent.

When a Lemmy instance owner gets a legal request from a foreign countries government to take down content, after they’re done shitting themselves they’ll take the content down or they’ll have to implement a country wide block on that country, along with not allowing any citizens of that country to use their instance no matter where they are located. Block me, I don’t care. You’re just proving that you can’t handle the truth and being challenged with it.
