Pretty good article; a nice overview of recent developments. I also agree with their conclusion; avoid American commercial entities whenever possible. The culture of corruption and criminality is simply too deeply rooted among the executive class and it is highly unlikely that there will be any true anti-corruption reform in the next ~20 years (I hope I am wrong).

It seems like they are doing this to push back on mono-culture. Probably just to save money really. Using 365 saved our small office a lot of time, but it is pretty expensive since it is a constant subscription. I already switched away from Adobe at to Wondershare for PDF editing since we can get a single purchase from Wondershare and have to pay a subscription to Adobe. I would be tempted to do the same thing with 365 but we do a lot of traveling and the integrated sharepoint files is pretty useful.

Also, even the article mentioned this, but Amazon has always done this. For example, engineers can volunteer to help out wrapping presents at Christmastime. An engineer can barely do these jobs properly and they aren't used to manual labor, so they work fewer hours than normal. And yes, it replaces their normal work. And, these white collar workers are many times more expensive than normal warehouse workers. This only makes any financial sense because they are desperate for extremely short time workers during rush times. This article isn't really news. Just rage bait.

My question is if we could attach an induction loop to a standard T8 bulb. If a bulb has burned out its electrical contacts, perhaps it could still be reused as it is. I'd guess that even if it were possible, it needs a lot of special electronics. Not worth the effort compared to getting an LED bulb.

I'm in a workplace that has tried not to be overbearing about AI, but has encouraged us to use them for coding. I've tried to give mine some very simple tasks like writing a unit test just for the constructor of a class to verify current behavior, and it generates output that's both wrong and doesn't verify anything. I'm aware it sometimes gets better with more intricate, specific instructions, and that I can offer it further corrections, but at that point it's not even saving time. I would do this with a human in the hopes that they would continue to retain the knowledge, but I don't even have hopes for AI to apply those lessons in new contexts. In a way, it's been a sigh of relief to realize just like Dotcom, just like 3D TVs, just like home smart assistants, it is a bubble.
