@lain@lain.com dude, it's so weird. I see all these people I know in the flesh, and it's fucking with my brain so bad.

@deadsuperhero #FediverseHouse this feels like an irrelevant echo chamber, I really miss the grassroots #DIY that built this space in the first place. This #mainstreaming is too much noise vs signal
@evanprodromou @evan what do you feel being in the middle of this?

@hamishcampbell @deadsuperhero @evanprodromou I'm quite excited. The Fediverse isn't an esoteric network for an elite few; everyone deserves to be on this network.

@hamishcampbell @deadsuperhero @evanprodromou that said, if there's a DIY old school event that you want to organize, please let me know. I'd love to support and amplify.

@hamishcampbell@mastodon.social @evanprodromou@socialwebfoundation.org @evan@cosocial.ca it's interesting. I think some of this is a natural side effect of growth and this space becoming much more popular. I think the DIY aspect is still very much alive, but there are two serious bottlenecks: labor and resources.
There's a lot of appealing details to the DIY aesthetic and concept, but I think we have to consider what it means. History has shown us that parts of the network have struggled to stay afloat: projects, infrastructure, initiatives, and organizations all require support and means to grow. Currently, there isn't enough in the ecosystem to support everybody, and some of the community hostility towards people building things hurts these DIY efforts.
