Wire Arc DED Additive Manufacturing has taken a back seat to Laser Metal Powder Bed Fusion for a while now, driven a lot by the air sector. But it is great seeing industry shift it's focus to Wire Arc. Larger scale components and better established feedstock supply (welding wire) with a lower cost of entry for equipment is an appealing proposition for many manufacturers. There is still the issue with qualification of additive parts. Slight issue with the article is with the supply of Ti64. Bringing the production capability in country doesn't fix the supply issue for high quality feedstock that is predominantly imported from China, Ukraine etc.

Actually there was just yesterday a story about Corning (The maker of Gorilla glass), that was accused by EU for anti competitive behavior, where Corning entered in positive dialogue, and stated they intended to work fully within regulation. https://lemmy.world/post/33255689 Corning, the US-based manufacturer of Gorilla Glass, has successfully avoided potential European Union antitrust fines of up to $1.25 billion by agreeing to a set of legally binding commitments that address concerns over its exclusive supply agreements for specialty glass used in smartphones and other handheld devices. So yes Musk is an ass, also compared to other companies. And his reaction is confrontational, which is not normal behavior.

Why should Apple stop doing business in the EU that makes no sense. Why would they deliberately cut themselves off from a huge potential market.

I can understand why some programs only allow a single copy to be opened at once, something like email makes sense. However on Linux they got this right... if you try to open a program that is already running, it switches to the screen that program is on and restores the program window to the desktop. There's no guessing why the program "won't open", it just makes the logical choice that you want to see it. Heh that reminds me of another detail from that call... the guy also wasn't willing to reboot his computer (which would have solved the problem as well), but berated me for not knowing what I was doing for making the suggestion. Dude, it's Windows, things break constantly and a reboot generally resolves the issue.

"Science" under capitalism has always been funded and developed by/for fascists. The originals in the USA were the founding enslavers. The nazis had their time. Now it's the zios. R&D for genocide as usual.

Why call it AI? Is it learning and said-modifying? If not then is it not just regular programming but "AI" sounds better for investors?

Yeah, but that's a secondary attribute. The new ones are stupid front and center.
