A lot of have pivoted. When I attend conferences, most of the vendor sponsors are basically “this same product that provides this common service, but with AI integration”.

No. America did not, and if you've been keeping track, he lost the popular vote by a huge margin the first time (which included insane amounts of election interference), and only "won" by 1.6% the second time, and only because of very specific gerrymandering and hoop jumping. Saying that's a clear direction for an entire country is fucking insane. Like if I have $0.51 I might as well have a dollar. It's just an insane argument.

See, THAT is not the slippery slope. STARTING to ban ANYTHING at all from legal transactions is the slippery slope. What happens when they decide R-rated films are distasteful? Or birth control? Payment processors should have ABSOLUTELY no role in making ANY decisions about what legal transactions they process. Period.

Because it’s something where the current government can claim they’re “doing something” or “addressing a real problem” but it also doesn’t threaten the rich and powerful. Going after Facebook would threaten the rich and powerful, for who it is an important tool for manipulating people, who think they can use it to mold culture to what they want it to be my breaking the minds of children. The current UK government is desperate to say to the public that they’re governing and fixing problems, but they also really don’t want to piss off the rich and powerful.

Those seem like niche things to hold on to. A 5090 should work just fine under Linux, what feature do you use that isn't supported? Also a 9070 XT is capable of doing ray tracing. You don't always have to have the absolute most powerful card. I don't have an HDR monitor so can't say how well it works in Linux, but you can survive without HDR. Is a better lighting contrast that big of a deal?

The thing is we don't need to come up with some absolute definition of what should and shouldn't be illegal to talk about this case specifically. They didn't accidentally stumble on this. They doxxed the users instead of responsibly disclosing the problem. This is extremely cut and dry. If the story here was "I mistyped something and got to a page I shouldn't have access to, I disclosed it to the company, didn't dox anyone by sharing the problem, and now the FBI is after me" it would be different.

I think I would make an exception to that law for a panic button or other emergency device that only transmits when activated, like a ship's EPIRB or an aircraft's ELT.
