Algorithmically curated timelines are designed to be addictive. Fediverse doesn't have that, it's time based, like it used to be before.
Oh ok, sorry. I wasn't aware that the fediverse restricted algorithms

I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.
Translation: I’m so thankful that I’ve had the opportunity to devote 2 years of my life to a company that was able to build a product that could appropriately express its true love for Adolf Hitler.

Twitter has been a nazi shithole since day 1 of the Musk era. At least now people cant say they didn't know anymore. If you stick there your either a nazi-bitch, or a nazi's bitch.
-
I'm surprised he didn't have a baby with her.
….that we know of. Could have used a surrogate.

It CAN be time based, but there's also a "hot" and an "active" sorting. Both of which are "algorithms".
It's a lot more simple of an algorithm, and doesn't intentionally push specific topics, but if you open https://lemmy.world/ anonymously, you'll see a default "All/Active" feed which is sorted by engagement.

If you hang out at a Nazi bar, you're a Nazi.

I keep getting arguments from peoplee about this, even on Bluesky.
Apparently it's too much to expect people to inconvenience themselves and not follow their favorite musicians or whatever.
If the vast majority of people can't be assed to take the absolutely easiest step possible to fight (or avoid supporting) fascists/Nazis, then we really are fucked.
Same thing with how people could very, very easily choose just NOT to buy another Nazicar. Yet 90% if Americans still bought one last month as a year earlier. It's just about the smallest sacrifice I can think of - just buying a DIFFERENT car that you might not like quite as much.
And I think the fact that we are where we are right now also confirms the problem.
Perhaps it's because I'm old, but I kinda hit a wall a few years back where I stopped giving a shit about what famous people had to say on the internet. So on that basis, the move from Twitter to Mastodon was easy for me. Less easy was leaving behind people who I liked, but life is change, and we leave people behind all the time.
-
I can't believe people still use Twitter.
We can all go entire books at this point with the things we can't believe...
This timeline is fucking insane, and twice as depressing as anything I thought I'd ever live through.
-
I can't believe people still use Twitter.
Perhaps you shouldn’t. At this point, it’s likely the majority of users are bots.

Real translation: thanks for the paycheck. Remember me when you need another yes person to be your scapegoat.

What do you mean non-fediverse? How does Federation affect addictiveness?
I am also addicted to the fediverse.

Are you saying 90% of Americans bought a Tesla last month?

I guess for me the stench of the people are counteracting the near heroin addictiveness of the fediverse

Who is liable for the output of Grok anyway? Would Germany like to ask about now

So sad when a CEO catches the woke mind virus, thoughts and prayers!

That's easy. It's more dull here, and there's less lock-in.
No, really. Social media without the dopamine-pump-style algorithm behind it is far less stimulating. Meanwhile, the Federation model itself allows us to abandon nodes that are co-opted by bad actors. So there's always somewhere else to go with all your favorite stuff when things go sour.

She was happy to take the bag even after Musk’s nazi salutes but now runs away. I wish I could say ”better later than never’ but she was a CEO, not some random nobody working at the ”basement’. Fuck these people!

I can't believe people still use Twitter.
There’s still some information on certain topics, where it is the best place to find it. OSINT for example.
People who use Twitter to publish and have a large audience are reluctant to leave their followers behind. Convincing followers to go over to a new platform is not so easy. If you fear losing 70% of your followers, if you switch to Blusky, or 95% if you switch to Mastodon, then it might be risky financially.
Network effects are strong.
