  • She peaced out 3 months after 2 years. I wonder if she had shit that paid out on her anniversary.

she was just a standin for trump, who was still the actual chairman/ceo, she is put there to take the blame for X's criticism.

    AKA a GLASS cliff situation.

  • Well, according to one source:

At X, her base salary was reportedly $6 million, according to Market Realist. In addition to this, she was eligible for up to $2 million in annual performance bonuses and received $4 million in stock options spread across a three-year term.

So if she stuck around another year she'd have gotten another ~$1.3 million in stock options. Guess she figured it wasn't worth it.

she has to make musk happy, i wonder if musk tried to get her pregnant, since thats his fetish

  • I can't believe people still use Twitter.

2 foreign parties have interest in keeping it up. MSB and putin.

  • Unfortunately I think people don’t care how the sausage is made. It has porn and racist edgy memes so they’ll keep coming back.

half of the users are probably porn OF accounts, i wonder if any of them actually divested from x. we know meta doesnt allow porn of any kind.

  • So all of the Americans are by your definition?

The Nazi looked up to the US. They loved how we slaughtered the Native Americans and based their Holocaust on our policies. Wealthy people from the US were integral to funding the Nazi party.

    You do the math.

In possible defense of this woman...

So initially, she's a woman brought on for a top leadership position to a problematic company. This is her chance to make some money and turn things around... And woman having top roles in business is a great thing. 100 years ago, that simply did not happen. Although there's still a fight for gay rights, trans rights, and the right of marginalized people, and there's still people being genocided and with no human rights, and people being tortured, that doesn't mean the struggle for woman's rights is over and that there's not some value to women taking top positions at large corporations.

And she made some progress on making that company less unappealing to advertisers, and did some good things...

AND THEN came the Elon Musk Hitler salute. And she probably had invested a lot of time and energy into the role, was being paid well, and was frustrated. Is she, as a woman in business, required to walk away from her efforts just because Elon Musk is a PR disaster and prejudiced person?

And then THIS finally happened. Her whole thing was just to be a businesswoman, be professional, and help make things profitable for this business unit, and this new AI change (which she almost certainly had nothing to do with and completely sucker punched her out of nowhere) completely undermined her.

So she did the smart thing and walked away. It was too much, it was undercutting her effort, she's moving on. Her last tweet was also very professional and corporate. She's a businesswoman.

Should she have left sooner? Should she have taken a stand against transphobia and some of the awful things on Xitter earlier? Yes, but also she had a boss, she had worked hard to get to where she was, and perhaps she wanted to make more money before exiting.

Does anyone know if she personally has done anything that indicates bigotry or prejudice towards trans people or Jewish people or anyone being genocided or tortured? I think her situation is somewhat understandable.

Even if we want to work toward a more egalitarian world in which all people have rights and are respected, woman will still be in organizations, most likely (if global warming doesn't kill us all), and so shouldn't woman be able to succeed?

  • Yea I really don't understand this, like move it's 2 seconds to join bluesky...like damn

Time or technical challenge are not the issue. The issue is that the utility of a social network is a function of the number of individuals in that network.

That's why Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Reddit all still have dominant positions in their regimes. If you want to see what your friends are saying you need to be on the same network they are on. And if they are on Twitter, signing up for Bluesky doesn't magically get you their content. I'm off twitter, never really used insta, I have my FB account, but I only log in now when I need to check on specific things (like seeing if people were OK after the wildfires swept through the town I used to live in), and I guiltily admit I still use reddit, largely because a lot of the niche subs I frequent aren't here. I know the solution to that last problem is for someone like me to step up and make them, but... I'm tired boss. I can either be a volunteer firefighter, or I can admin a firefighter com on Lemmy. I can't do both.

She knew exactly what she was going to be defending. She used all the code words and dog whistles from the start.

Her presence on a project will raise my eyebrows.

So I'm assuming she will head to Mozilla or Ubuntu.

Naa I get it, I think I'm more annoyed at how the big guys (bands/nfl teams/companies/ect.) haven't moved. Because if they do, they're going to drag a ton of people with them and it'll kickoff the migration.

  • Thats because all of the heinously stupid things were done by the previous CEO.

    The dog?

  • Like what the fuck is possibly on there that justifies using that piece of shit platform?

People. Lots of people. Including Doctor Cory Doctorow and Molly White.

Cory Doctorow is on mastodon, just like Molly White

Yep, Elon picked her for a reason.

  • Oh ok, sorry. I wasn't aware that the fediverse restricted algorithms

It does not restrict them per se, it's just that the mechanics of what to show you are either simply based on posting time, or amount of "interactions" or "interactions/time" or similar simple algorithms. It would be possible to analyze posts for specific content and show you for example ragebait only, but i doubt that pull request would be accepted - you would probably have to make a fork of your fediverse platform and implement it there.

Yes, but also she had a boss, she had worked hard to get to where she was, and perhaps she wanted to make more money before exiting.

And that is somehow an excuse? Being a business women trying to succeed does not give her a pass for anything.

  • We were talking about Xitter, not Mastodon...

  • Who is liable for the output of Grok anyway? Would Germany like to ask about now

Nobody! That's the main value of AI!

  • Yes, but also she had a boss, she had worked hard to get to where she was, and perhaps she wanted to make more money before exiting.

And that is somehow an excuse? Being a business women trying to succeed does not give her a pass for anything.

Honestly the above comment infuriated me.

They would not be defending this person if they were a man.

Having lower expectations of women isn't progressive, it isn't feminist. It's infantising. It's misogyny of lower expectations. "Oh you can't expect women to understand the difference between right and wrong."

A woman who is happy to support Elon is every bit as bad as a man that is happy to support Elon. Supporting a nazi is supporting a nazi.

  • We were talking about Xitter, not Mastodon...

and we are talking about reasons why people are still there - those two aren't one, because you can read their posts somewhere else too. Except if you meant that people are still there because those two are still there.

You're missing the point. Ask yourself why those people are still there.

It depends on the VPN client, doesn't it? I use iptables to route everything through a proxy except local host and proxied connections

It's a bit of a sticking point in Australia which is becoming more and more of a 'two-speed' society. Foxtel is for the rich classes, it caters to the right wing. Sky News is on Foxtel. These eSafety directives killing access to youtube won't affect those rich kids so much, but for everyone else it's going to be a nightmare. My only possible hope out of this is that maybe, Parliament and ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority, TV standards) decide that since we need a greater media landscape for kids and they can't be allowed to have it online, that maybe more than 3 major broadcasters could be allowed. It's not a lack of will that stops anyone else making a new free-to-air network, it's legislation, there are only allowed to be 3 commercial FTA broadcasters in any area. I don't love Youtube or the kids watching it, it's that the alternatives are almost objectively worse. 10 and 7 and garbage 24/7 and 9 is basically a right-wing hugbox too.

It is common in the military to give commissioned rank to certain positions for the higher pay grade. The fast tracking takes away from the belief everyone serving with you went through (roughly) the same basic training as you.

You don’t understand. The tracking and spying is the entire point of the maneuver. The ‘children are accessing porn’ thing is just a Trojan horse to justify the spying. I understand what are you saying, I simply don't consider to check if a law is applied as a Trojan horse in itself. I would agree if the EU had said to these sites "give us all the the access log, a list of your subscriber, every data you gather and a list of every IP it ever connected to your site", and even this way does not imply that with only the IP you could know who the user is without even asking the telecom company for help. So, is it a Trojan horse ? Maybe, it heavily depend on how the EU want to do it. If they just ask "show me how you try to avoid that a minor access your material", which normally is the fist step, I don't see how it could be a Trojan horse. It could become, I agree on that. As you pointed out, it’s already illegal for them to access it, and parents are legally required to prevent their children from accessing it. No, parents are not legally required to prevent it. The seller (or provider) is legally required. It is a subtle but important difference. But you don’t lock down the entire population, or institute pre-crime surveillance policies, just because some parents are not going to follow the law. True. You simply impose laws that make mandatories for the provider to check if he can sell/serve something to someone. I mean asking that the cashier of mall check if I am an adult when I buy a bottle of wine is no different than asking to Pornhub to check if the viewer is an adult. I agree that in one case is really simple and in the other is really hard (and it is becoming harder by the day). You then charge the guilty parents after the offense. Ok, it would work, but then how do you caught the offendind parents if not checking what everyone do ? Is it not simpler to try to prevent it instead ?
