Microsoft happened to Nokia.
They were already losing before MS bought them.

Elop came from MS and always seemed like he was there to sabotage Nokia

sabotage
Microsoft's interest in Nokia was being able to compete with what is now a duopoly between Google and Apple in phones. They wanted to own a mobile platform. I am very confident that they did not want their project to flop. That being said, they'll have had their own concerns and interests. Maybe Nokia would have done better to go down the Apple or Google path, but for Microsoft, the whole point was to get Microsoft-platform hardware out there.

Maybe sabotage isn't the right word, but his decisions seemed to be more for Microsoft's benefit than for Nokia's.

Microsoft wanted a platform... for Windows CE, not Nokia's MeeGo or Symbian. That was the problem. Elop destroyed Nokia to get the only the name.

What happened to Nokia?
TBF, Motorola is a bit misleading. Nothing against the product, (I love my RAZR), but they were basically diminished to a brand-name that is now owned by Lenovo.

What happened to Nokia?
Motorola phones are not American anymore, the phone part was bought by Lenovo and is now 100% Chinese.
So for 2025 it's only Samsung and Apple on the list that are not Chinese. -
What happened to Nokia?
I just found my old BlackBerry Bold… I miss that thing!

What happened to Nokia?
In 2007 I had a Palm. I miss that brand.

What happened to Nokia?
I really hate that they put Motorola on there. That's Lenovo, Motorola doesn't make phones anymore, anyone who worked for Motorola and made cell phones either stayed at Google during the sale or moved to another company. It's literally just the Motorola brand slapped on Lenovo products because that's all Lenovo bought, the brand. They got not IP, no employees, nothing but the name.
