@puppygirlhornypost2 Essentially yes? They're trying to do topic-based custom feeds, for people who want to read a bunch of posts about $thing but don't want to first cultivate a list of people who post about it. I think some of it is through hashtags but not all. I'm definitely not super in tune with the details.
But the people running it are really nice and approachable in my experience, I can tag 'em in if you want to ask any questions directly.

@puppygirlhornypost2 I can see different judgment calls on the extent to which that's an issue. I usually fall on the side of, if the post is public and uses hashtags, the author probably wanted it to be widely seen. Though I wonder if channel.org respects #nobot.

@julian@fietkau.social I mean yeah, the only real problem I have is that it can be jarring for someone to post to a certain hashtag and get boosts immediately after. I'm aware on mastodon you can follow hashtags. Certainly a good question about #nobot too (and #noindex?)

@julian@fietkau.social @puppygirlhornypost2@transfem.social the way I see it, channel.org, or NewsMast in general, is trying in their own way to solve the problem of quiet fedi through something akin to starter packs.
I think it's potentially a good way to populate an instance with content without needing to rely on relays, but I am not sure what the SNR is like...
I'm interested in integrating their API so that new installs of NodeBB have access to NewsMast feeds. They've been very helpful in opening up their API for me to integrate.
