@j12t@j12t.social what I loved most about this year's FOSDEM was the camaraderie shown by everybody. I told my wife, who isn't plugged into the open social web (yet!) that I was constantly networking, and while that is technically what you would call it, what it really was was a purely organic gathering of like minded individuals, who have never met in real life, who had instant rapport because of the shared values inherent to the fediverse. As the fediverse grows, we'll see this kind of phenomenon happen less and less (see "Eternal September"), but we're at the early stage of the social web where these kinds of things can happen, and when it does, it's amazing. "Networking" at conferences is usually shaking hands and exchanging business cards, and then walking away never to hear from them again.

@jiejie@mastodon.social good question! The answer ultimately lies in how you want to communicate with your audience. Each option is different and it's hard for you to know which software is the best fit. That's why even when I say NodeBB sits somewhere in between microblogs and blogs, NodeBB might not be the right solution, yeah? What kind of site do you want to build, how in depth do you want to go, etc.?

There's nothing of value between where @dansup@mastodon.social lives and I live I jest, but while I am throwing out ideas I have a lead on a space in Toronto that could easily hold 200 standing room. Depends how big you want to think. @reiver@mastodon.social did we already discuss that you were from Canada? In all that went on it might've just slipped my mind. @liaizon@social.wake.st @andypiper@macaw.social @evan@cosocial.ca

@reiver@mastodon.social that would be me! I was poking fun a bit at @dave@upp2.com because Fediscovery is an ambitious solution to one of the fediverse's "hard problems". Why not feature creep some more while I'm there? hah! The full gist of the question was... "the broad use-case of fediscovery would be to try to achieve some sort of global search, where anything can be found, but could there be a use-case where someone could use the Fediscovery FASP to build a domain-specific search provider, e.g. science-based, meme-based, etc.?" I'll be speaking more about those "hard problems" tonight at the Social Web After-Hours event at HSBXL. Will you be there? I'd love to say hello!
