@silverpill@mitra.social I think given the addressing limitations of collections, this by-proxy method of determining who to send an as:Follow to makes sense as a stopgap measure until ActivityPub's next version...

    > Doesn't this mean Mastodon users et al will no longer get boost notifications when their posts are reshared into a topic? Correct, only OP will be shared. Unless I am mistaken this is how Lemmy implemented it. Announce-ing activities only, and one single Announce(Note) for compatibility with Mastodon.

@AltCode are you still having issues with @deadsuperhero@forum.wedistribute.org's posts? I am able to see the post content here. Is it still blank for you?

@j12t@j12t.social what I loved most about this year's FOSDEM was the camaraderie shown by everybody. I told my wife, who isn't plugged into the open social web (yet!) that I was constantly networking, and while that is technically what you would call it, what it really was was a purely organic gathering of like minded individuals, who have never met in real life, who had instant rapport because of the shared values inherent to the fediverse. As the fediverse grows, we'll see this kind of phenomenon happen less and less (see "Eternal September"), but we're at the early stage of the social web where these kinds of things can happen, and when it does, it's amazing. "Networking" at conferences is usually shaking hands and exchanging business cards, and then walking away never to hear from them again.

@silverpill@mitra.social when discussed with Nutomic about this, I made the case that 1b12 is excellent for synchronization. 7888 (and 171b, etc.) are good for backfill, in cases where there is no 1b12 implementation available.

@squinky@teh.entar.net hmm, you should be able to, given it's an unauthenticated resource... But then again maybe some sites require a signed request.
  • I have a #Fediverse #ActivityPub question:

@jonny@neuromatch.social sure! NodeBB has it working now if you want to poke around on BrowserPub, just paste a topic URL into it. v4.0.0 can pull entire topics in already (assuming the remote end supports it.) When v4.1 drops you'll be able to do this via the topic URL itself.

Hi @robz@toot.robzazueta.com! (Thanks @beaware@social.beaware.live for bringing this to my attention) You're right, our website is more about our self-service hosting option, and that's because that's what pays our day-to-day bills. It's an unfortunate reality of the open-source development model. The project itself is licensed under GPLv3 and has always been this way. Your concerns over Automattic are well-founded and they also worry me. That said, NodeBB is free and open-source, and you are encouraged to self-host it. That has been our mantra from day one, and still remains that way today.
