At carbon footprint levels approaching the US military coming soon!
You're on the Internet. Should we shut that off as well?
How are you any better with coming online to shit post and look at memes.
The datacenters used to run websites and social media are not any better.

I know too many PhD's for that to impress me
Right? I still remember the bollocking I got from a professor in front of a class about the awful state of classroom equipment, all because the man couldn't find the PHD (push here, dummy) button to turn the computer on....

In the Future All Food Will Be Cooked in a Microwave, and if You Can’t Deal With That Then You Need to Get Out of the Kitchen
Update 8/8/2025 – I wrote this the day before a certain post by a popular developer services company. I’ve seen some comments this is a rebuttal – it wasn’t meant to be! But…

Great Whataboutism.

It helps that the media propagates everything he says as if it is truth when he's obviously lying like 80% of the time.
He's another Musk, who's cars have been running completely driver-less from US coast to US coast since 8 years now.

Are you trying to say that making a series of http requests to view a website is even remotely equivalent in energy usage compared to running inference with an llm model???

Awesome. My only critique is that microwave ovens actually work really well in their niche. I can't say the same for LLMs.

Yes since you're not the only one doing it. The impact on climate is substantial in both cases and people are absolute hypocrites for not realizing this. You can't come online and shit post all day about AI without realizing you're using services that also contribute to The same if not worse impact

OpenAI claims new GPT-5 model boosts ChatGPT to ‘PhD level’
GPT-5's release comes as tech firms continue to compete in an effort to claim the world's most advanced AI.

No matter what they say LLMs are not intelligent. AI is a a scam. It’s predictive algorithms on an incredible scale which in the right applications can be really amazing tools but this promise of agi, sentience and the claims of thoughts, feelings, emotions, hallucinations and yes intelligence… absolutely just a scam.

Someone using a lightbulb isn't a hypocrite if they say it is irresponsible to use the resources to power a computer, and someone using the internet isn't a hypocrite if they say the absurdly higher resource usage of llm inference is irresponsible.
You can call people hypocrites all day if you pretend that scale isn't a concept, but you're obviously wrong.

No I'm not wrong and it is hypocritical. It is a great point that highlights this issue isn't about resources. It's hype and panic pushed to certain groups. Just like any other. I can find the same hypocrisy on the right fot many of their issues
