As much as it may feel like it, Trump hasn't been President for the last 10 years.

Two of the largest drivers are religion, christians wanting their Sharia Law, and Russia taking political control of the US. Capitalism is in the top three, sure. It's also part of the driver of that technology. I don't think we should worship capitalism as we have, but I don't think getting rid of capitalism as a whole solves more problems than it creates. Give me capitalism with heavy socialist controls and political separation please, thanks. The general idea of using money as a measure of what society owes you isn't terrible. It's allowing that measure to get so out of whack and have such inordinate control of everything that is the problem.

You can have whatever token you want with all the metadata, licensing and ownership information you want... ...unless you plan on only seeing images in your own platform, nobody gives a shit, people will take screenshots and image files and share and use them however they want. There's no world in which you load a full DRM plugin or do 4 different types of handshake with a full blockchain just to load a jpeg into a comment.

Yeah my friend is dating a Google recruiter and he overhears some absurd offers. Like, a reasonable person could retire on a few years at that salary. I have a hypothesis that rich people are bad at money

They really do! It's nice to read something that's clearly hand crafted and high quality, especially the big news roundups that you do, as opposed to the usual SEO slop most news sites have. It's a treat every time a new one comes out.

I share your frustration. I went nuts about this the other day. It was in the context of searching on a discord server, rather than Google, but it was so aggravating because of the how the "I know better than you" is everywhere nowadays in tech. The discord server was a reading group, and I was searching for discussion regarding a recent book they'd studied, by someone named "Copi". At first, I didn't use quotation marks, and I found my results were swamped with messages that included the word "copy". At this point I was fairly chill and just added quotation marks to my query to emphasise that it definitely was "Copi" I wanted. I still was swamped with messages with "copy", and it drove me mad because there is literally no way to say "fucking use the terms I give you and not the ones you think I want". The software example you give is a great example of when it would be real great to be able to have this ability. TL;DR: Solidarity in rage
