I don't use any GUI... I use terraform in the terminal or via CI/CD. There is an API and also a Terraform provider for Proxmox, and I can use that, together with Ansible and shell scripts to manage VMs, but I was looking for k8s support. Again, it works fine for small environments, with a bit of manual work and human intervention, but for larger ones, I need a bit more. I moved away from a few VMs acting as k8s nodes, to k8s as a service (at work).

I have a rough idea of their efficiency as I've used them, not in professional settings but I wager it would not be too different. My point is more that it feels like the rugs are finally starting to get pulled. This tech is functionnal as you said, it works to a point and that point is enough for a sizeable amount of people. But I doubt that the price most people are paying now is enough to cover the cost of answering their queries. Now that some people, especially younger devs or people who never worked without those tools are dependant on it, they can go ahead and charge more. But it's not too late, so I'm hoping it will make some people more aware of that kind of scheme and that they will stop feeding the AI hype in general.

Almost nothing is ever really done on any filesystem when you press "delete". The only thing is that those physical parts of the disk with the "deleted" file are marked as "not in use". The data is there still unchanged, until you save something else and that spot on the disk is the first free spot available for saving that new file. So, if you accidentally delete files, make sure that nothing gets saved on that disk anymore, not even by the OS. So, either unmount the disk, or cut the power to your computer, or whatever. Then learn how to mount hard drives as read-only and how to mark the "not in use" spots on your disk as "this spot contains this file". This is why proper deletion of files always includes filling the disk with random data. As long as nothing has been written on top of where the file was (and in reality: still is), it's still there. Only access to it has been removed, but that access can be regained. Been there, done that.
