I mean, having it not help people commit suicide would be a good starting point for AI safety.

This is exactly something that has annoyed me in a sports community I follow back on Reddit. Posts with titles along the lines of “I asked ChatGPT what it thinks will happen in the game this weekend and here is what it said”. Why? What does ChatGPT add to the conversation here? Asking the question directly in the subreddit would have encouraged the same discussion. We’ve also learned nothing about the OPs opinion on the matter, other than maybe that they don’t have one. And even more to the point, it’s so intellectually lazy that it just feels like karma farming. “Ya I have nothing to add but I do love me them updoots”. I would rather someone posted saying they knew shit all about the sport but they were interested, than someone feigning knowledge by using ChatGPT as some sort of novel point of view, which it never is. It’s ways the most milquetoast response possible, ironically adding less to the conversation than the question it’s responding to. But that argument always just feels overly combative for what is otherwise a pretty relaxed sports community. It’s just not worth having that fight there.

I mean yeah but no. is an addict and addict if they aren't addicted to something? technically yes, socially no. it's not the fault of society for falling prey to the manipulations, but fault can be found for allowing it to continue to happen.

Yeah, she had just broken up with her boyfriend and found a bunch of "self-help" youtube videos that basically just said everyone who disagrees with you is a narcissist, then the algorithm started recommending her videos that said everyone who disagrees with you is actually an "energy vampire" literally and maliciously draining you of your life force. From there she got into all the crazy health conspiracies - which of course happened right as she was diagnosed with DCIS, which is easily treatable, but if left untreated becomes breast cancer. She dove head-first into all of the conspiracies after that, throwing money at anyone claiming to cure cancer so long as the method wasn't backed by "big science," and died of breast cancer a few years later.

I had a wild ride with matrix, originally wanting to run a node on my server. That did not turn out well, because I was a bit stupid and just assumed there would be more admin/mod tools out of the box. As it turned out, I had inadvertently allowed spam/abuse accounts on my node without even noticing, because naive as I was, I assumed my admin-level account would get informed of stuff like user registrations and abuse reports in the standard Element frontend. As a bonus, when I checked what was supposedly the official matrix support channel, it was repeatedly getting spammed with CSAM and gore at the time. That was when I realised, that it definitely was not the ecosystem for me, and running a node without experience had been a pretty stupid idea on my end.

Pixel 6a users got a big change to their battery life, on the other hand. ... But gone are the days where the back of the phone pops off using only your thumb and you can just swap batteries.
